Die Rote Optik: DDR-Fernsehen als Staatspropaganda (1964) - FRG Analysis of DDR Propaganda

Episode 64 of “Die Rote Optik“ (The Red Viewpoint) The “Red Viewpoint“ was a West German program that covered events from Communist East Germany and analyzed their television broadcasts. This episode showcases how East German Television is used as state propaganda. Various excerpts of of GDR broadcasts show the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) in a negative point of view. The East German regime responded to this program by creating their own version of the Rote Optik titled “Der schwarze Kanal“ (The Black Channel) which took West German broadcasts and provided a commentary of the clips from a communistic perspective.
