Steeplejack School (1965)

Location unknown. Vertigo inducing shots of men at work on a very tall building. Narrator states that the acrobatic skills of a steeplejack are taught not born. Good footage of men training to be steeplejacks. Various shots of the young men using steeplejack equipment including special ropes, winches, pulley mechanisms etc. Narrator states that men are killed every week “building Britain high and handsome“ - so special training is needed. Various shots of men watching their teacher climbing a ladder then letting himself down using a pulley. The students practice lifting a piece of chimney. Their crash helmets have the words: “F.E. Beaumont - Steeplejack Training School“ painted on them. “This is the school that teaches the people that a building a brave new world out of our old comfortable Britain“ states the narrator.
