BBC Weather Friday 31st July 2020 - 37.8°C at Heathrow & 37.3°C at Kew Gardens A one-day heat blast caused temperatures in the UK to skyrocket to mid-30s with many areas in the SE getting to 35/36°C with Heathrow (37.8°C), Kew Gardens (37.3°C) & Northolt managing to hit 37°C. Herne Bay reached 36.4°C which was the third hottest day on record & the second hottest July day on record. This incredible one-day blast of heat from the South nearly breaking the all-time high record set last year on the 25th of July. It went to show the incredible lengths that heat is able to reach in the United Kingdom after just one day of it & is also evidence to show the effects of our warming climate so far. 850 hPa temperatures were at 20°C, a whole 4°C lower than July 2019 & a SE’ly wind. Heathrow had hit 35°C at 11am, ahead of 2019 & Heathrow actually set a personal record at 37.8°C.
