Syntactic features of academic writing: Problems and solutions

Academic writing in English is the object of study in hundreds of publications. There are numerous textbooks and reference books in which one can find guidelines for creating an academic text. Yet, which grammatical constructions are really typical of an English-language research article? Which structures are most difficult for Russian-speaking authors? The researchers from the teaching and research laboratory of learner corpora have looked into the use of academic speech markers in several corpora of articles published in leading journals in six disciplines, and they know the answers to these questions.
