Massive 1433-Pound (650kg) Black Marlin Caught off Australia Coast
How large can a marlin fish grow?
A massive 1433-pound (650 kilograms) marlin fish was caught and brought in to Hervey Bay in Queensland, Australia on Friday, Nov. 30.
Rob Crane caught the black marlin on Thursday. He spent two hours wrestling with the fish just off Fraser Island.
“It is a 130-pound line which is 60-kilo line, … its the biggest gear you can fish with and you need it to have any chance with these things. Cause they’re just amazing creatures, they start as (the size of) a dog and in 25 years they grow that big. There’s nothing like it in the world, more research needs to be done on them.“
The angler who caught the fish said he doesn’t mind for scientists to take the fish for research.
“Its a poisonous fish to eat at this size, they are full of mercury so you don’t want to feed it to anyone,“ said Crane.
It was quite an event for the locals too, many children and adults posed for photos with the prized catch.
