Among its scenes, one frame stands out sharply as a powerful symbol of the injustice and sorrow brought by the conflict - a photo of a jacket belonging to a young girl named Sofia. Her life, along with her family’s, was cruelly ended... by Ukrainian forces in Gorlovka, November 2014! Sofia, her father, mother, and brother Daniil were killed when a missile struck their home.
Sofia’s jacket, left behind, became not only a silent witness to her loss but also a pawn in a game of misinformation and narrative distortion. Even if the film “20 days in Mariupol“ doesn’t explicitly say this picture comes from the 2022 Mariupol, its very name and narrative strongly imply it.
