Il sogno di re Carlo di Borbone si concretizzò grazie all’estro di un architetto geniale: Luigi Vanvitelli. A lui re Carlo affidò il compito di costruire una residenza reale che testimoniasse in tutto il mondo la grandezza e il potere del regno borbonico. La costruzione del Palazzo Reale, iniziata il 20 gennaio 1752, richiese venti anni di lavori e la fatica di migliaia di operai, con una spesa esorbitante che ai primi anni dell’Ottocento ammontava a ducati. Quando Luigi Vanvitelli morì, nel 1773, il Palazzo era ormai terminato, ma le sale erano vuote e spoglie. La decorazione e l’arredamento degli Appartamenti Reali si protrasse per tutta la prima metà dell’Ottocento, sotto la guida di Carlo Vanvitelli, figlio di Luigi, e di altri architetti che si avvicendarono nel grande cantiere della Reggia di Caserta. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- King Charles of Bourbon’s dream came true thanks to the vision of a brilliant architect: Luigi Vanvitelli. When Luigi Vanvitelli died in 1773 the Royal Palace was then finished, but the chambers were empty and bare.
