Labour Council’s Housing (1920)

Dr C. Addison cuts the first sod of a new housing estate in Woolwich, Greater London. Full title reads: “Labour Council’s Housing Scheme - Dr Addison cuts first sod of new Housing estate.“ M/S of dignitaries gathering around as Dr Addison is handed a spade. Addison is wearing very smart dress, including tie and top hat. He puts the spade into the ground and digs up the first sod. He pauses for a while holding the lump of soil on the spade and smiles, (presumably for the press) he then drops it to the ground. Good C/U of Dr Addison with his hat off, he looks at the camera and smiles and chats to a colleague to his right. We see another M/S of Addison digging up another sod, this time from behind. As he moves a round to dig some more photographers dash onto the screen and begin to frantically take photos of him.
