COP26: Scientists warn planet will warm by 2.4 Celsius despite commitments

Despite world leaders making new commitments at the COP26 climate summit, scientists are now warning the planet’s temperatures will likely still warm drastically. The goal for participating countries at the summit is to agree on the rules to keep the average global temperature from rising more than 1.5 Celsius above pre-industrial levels. But a new forecast by the Climate Action Tracker, an independent research group, suggests temperatures are on track to rise 2.4 Celsius by the end of the century.
