A fairytale success! Simon Condon turns 60 next year but won’t have enjoyed many better days as he guided home Eat The Book, who he owns himself, to a remarkable victory at Kilbeggan. The rider has been competing in the saddle since 19 years of age but, incredibly, this is his first ever winner and all the more special as the horse was bought by his father. Detached early, the rider stayed patient on the nine-year-old gelding, creeping into contention on the final circuit before making his challenge down the outside of the field and forging clear for a most unlikely success. A jubilant Condon said afterwards: “I’ve been waiting a long time for it.
