I hereby have the great honor to present the following audio recording of a complete concert with IFA Wartburg. The show was held in Basel, Switzerland on April 7 1999 as a part of a tour which has been going on for almost 40 years (with some shorter decade breaks here and there). The songs performed during this live show are as follows: Zur Konferenz in Rostock (Presentation in German by the Tour Manager at FDJ (climax at Presentation Kosmoskost (Kosmosrolf at Es ist nicht so schlimm auf der Insel Krim Nightclub in Berlin (Heinz inhales air brought from Potsdam to calm down at Volksfest in Ukraina (sausage destruction takes place at Hey, Radiofunker! (Prost Bompa! at Hupschka! at Der alte böse Kapitalismus Meine Möbeln in Köln* Hallo guter Kommunist! (Babli Balula sings at Kulturarbeiter des Monats (The most socialistic worker of the month is awarded with a medal) Frau Gorbatschowa tanzt Bossanova (Presentation of the music workers as individuals with their real names) Zwei Tage in Berlin (Heinz screaming Höher Höher HÖHER! Spaßjazz (Guitar solo by Heinz Klinger at Volksfest in Ukraina noch ein mal (sausage destruction 2 takes part at Ende As soon as the concert was to its end, we had to march in a line to our security checkpoint for a routine identification and medical examination (absolutely nothing mandatory, just for our personal convenience) and after that prepare for our travel back to the GDR. It was kind of emotional to leave all these wonderful people we met in Switzerland because we knew how hard the daily life must be for them, with starvation and poverty everywhere. We were told that the average Swiss citizen is secretly dreaming about escaping the Swiss border barefoot in the middle of the night, chased by armed border guards and barking German shepherds, leaving all this western misery behind for a free life without capitalism. But no matter how much we would like to, we cannot save all the people oppressed by censorship in our world. *Warning: The song “Meine Möbeln in Köln“ glorifies western furniture which can be quite offensive to the majority. A similar wording is used in the song “Sessel aus Kassel“ (therefore now banned). Quality furniture can only be manufactured by VEB Sitzmöbelwerke Waldheim. Many people around the world have sent us letters and telexes asking about how often IFA Wartburg goes on tour. The answer is that IFA Wartburg is always on tour, albeit with a few short breaks here and there, lasting some decades or more. To bring absolute clarity to the whole thing, I have been ordered to compile a complete guide to this matter, write everything down on a traceable STASI-typewriter with my secret signature and swear under oath what my role is.
