Controversial ’Gassy Jack’ statue in Vancouver’s Gastown toppled
The controversial statue of John Deighton, known as “Gassy Jack,“ was toppled during the Women’s March on February 14. Indigenous activists say statue is a constant reminder of violence and oppression. The Squamish Nation began working on the removal of the statue 2 years ago with the City of Vancouver.
