Nelson Mandela shares his thoughts about reading the diary of Anne Frank when he was in prison. The book gave him and his fellow prisoners on Robben Island courage and taught them about the invincibility of the human spirit. This footage originates from the documentary Het Achterhuis op Robbeneiland (The Diary on Robben Island) by Dutch broadcasting cooperation VARA, which was broadcast on 4 May 1995.
