Twelvefold Rod Exercise - Instructional Series for Eurythmy

In this video we show you the Twelvefold rod exercise. Rudolf Steiner instructed that the rod exercises should be done with copper rods, because “copper would [...] give the movements certainty from within.” The rod exercises work “against imperfections in the physical posture“, according to Rudolf Steiner. “spiritually inspired gymnastics“ with which we tune ourselves, as we do with an instrument, before we practice eurythmy. We hold the rod down with our arms extended, palms turned inwards and thumbs not facing the other fingers. With a small tug, we move it up so that it comes to rest on the thumbs, in front of the upper chest. While doing this, we move the upper arms wide to the sides. This is a very healthy movement, Rudolf Steiner said. We then drop the rod and catch it at the bottom.
