Behind The Design Of An Exciting and Fun Kitchen

It is often said that the kitchen is the heart of the home, a concept that Studio Doherty has drawn from in their creation of Scoop Kitchen in collaboration with Laminex. The bold design harnesses the multifaceted nature of the Kitchen and rewrites traditional design through texture, colour and grain to elevate the domestic space. Specialising in interior design projects characterised by personality, colour, texture and layered materials, Studio Doherty was the ideal fit. Here, Studio Doherty used Laminex’s acrylic surfaces in an entirely new way. Using Laminex’s AbsoluteMatte range, Studio Doherty draws from the colour collection to complement the matte finish. The studio also approached the design with bold colour combinations and textured finishes without it being too overpowering. The design concept was centred around one idea: connection. This meant ensuring a strong connection within the kitchen itself and with the living room. The design also focused on the connection between family and friends and ensured the area remained spacious and open for social gatherings. Studio Doherty creates a kitchen that not only looks and feels great but is also highly practical. The space is sturdy and durable, able to withstand time and be suitable for growing families. Additionally, whilst the kitchen is made mainly using Laminex’s products, various aesthetic, smart appliances also elevate the functional nature of the space, as well as the tile used for the curved splashback. Reworking the conceptual approach to the pantry, Studio Doherty emphasises this functional kitchen feature. Often done in a white laminate, Studio Doherty wanted to elevate the pantry as a beautiful feature by treating it as a piece of joinery rather than storage. The company created a freestanding pantry unit, with a bar to the left clad in Laminex Moroccan Clay and Laminex Steel Blue, and a food storage pantry to the right is also clad in Laminex Steel Blue and a bold Laminex Peacock. Scoop Kitchen sets an exciting precedent for kitchen design, encouraging a forward approach when it comes to using acrylic surfaces.
