Leslie’s March

Leslie’s March, aka Highland March from Oscar and Malvina (an C18th pantomine), Dirty James, James the S**t (referring to King James II), Duplin House, Leven’s March and many other names. There’s a choice of C18th and C19th publications in which it appears and a tune called Leshly’s March which has some similarities appears in the 1694 manuscript of Henry Atkinson. There’s also a choice of Leslies to whom the title may refer. Clear as mud, as is often the case with these old tunes! Quick blast through it on one of Tim Cranmore’s prototype Dragon Flutes and bass English concertina.
