Michael Schumacher’s Abandoned Home Village, A Tragic End To A Beautiful Part Of Germany!

In this weeks video I take a trip over to Central Germany to explore the remains of Michael Schumacher Home village! It is set to be flattened in order to make way for Germany’s largest open-pit coal mine - the Hambach surface mine. This is despite a statutory plan being put in place to phase out coal within the country in 2029. Nonetheless, the excavators are set to begin their destruction in 2024 and i can confirm its well underway….. But three things will remain intact, including the listed St. Albanus and Leonhardus church and Schumacher’s childhood home - restored by Michael’s brother Ralf. The legendary Erftlandring go-kart track, where the seven-time Formula One world champion honed his skills, will also remain. This was where Michael’s parents took him once he had crashed his motorcycle engine-powered pedal kart built by his Dad, into a lamp post. The local forest is rumoured to still be occupied by The Hambi People… They’re here because the Hambi is threatened with total destruction. There’s not much of it left now. The forest sits atop one of the largest coalfields in Europe and since mining started in 1978 the trees have been gradually stripped away to allow the excavators access to the riches that lie beneath - millions of tons of coal, coal that keeps industry running in this part of Germany and provides thousands of people with a living.
