Near Chachapoyas in the high Andes of northern Peru, these six colorful tombs or sarcophagi high on a sheer cliff face are impressive. Built by the Chachapoyan people (pre-Inca), there were originally eight of them but two collapsed, providing evidence of the mummies inside.
