Filipino Windmill Training Drill by W. Hock Hochheim

Watch this 57 minute film for free. When on a training trip in the Philippines back in the early 90s, Ernesto Presas decided to show our small group something he called the (translated) the “Filipino Windmill.” I never learned how to spell, how he pronounced it in Tagalog. It sounded something like...“Hawa-Hawa?” Something like that, but that doesn’t perfectly translate to what he said it was in English – “The Windmill. He said it was very important, a fundamental “windmill-like-movement,” a circular movement, from which many other drill patterns move in and interrupt. The circles patterns move down, up and sideways, all with mandatory, classic “1/2” beat inserts. I collected the info and thought it was important, versatile and challenging. In all my years with Ernesto, we never did it again, other than that one 5-6 hour session in Manila. I have tried to reproduce the lesson in this film with evolutions. You might find it useful. - Hock
