PhosphorDots non toxic quantum dots, with UV illumination

This demo shows PhosphorDots being added to water on a UV light table, showing how they are transparent but light up brightly. Sun Innovations’ PhosphorDots are a type of non-toxic quantum dot for medical research, optoelectronics, solar, and other applications. PhosphorDots solve limitations of standard quantum dots including toxicity, ease of functionalization without ligand exchange, lifetime, and the ability to have aqueous dispersions. Current quantum dots require shells to prevent them from oxidization, increasing the manufacturing cost. Also, doubts usually linger that the shell won’t last and oxidization and/or the release of toxins will occur. Our PhosphorDots are non-toxic oxides, so they are inherently more stable than traditional quantum dots, while they last orders of magnitude longer than organic dyes. By eliminating the requirement for organic capping and an inorganic shell, there are less prospective points of failure in the material due to thermal, chemical, or other vari
