Mikhail Bozylev - As if Etude, As if Variations On Prokofiev

The purpose of the Etude is to ‘disconnect’ a pianist from the keyboard and to attempt an escape from already existing music to something extraordinary. The Etude is written in the form of narrative variations, mainly on the Prokofiev’s first piano concerto. I would even call it narrative semi-variations, as it is not variations all the time. First movement symbolizes confinement, in which the pianist works very hard, but cannot get passages clearly, whereas the composer cannot extricate him/herself from the variations on the first Prokofiev’s concerto. Second movement is a certain dream/meditation, where both pianist and composer see an alternative way of what they can do. Third movement brings the characters back to reality: they as if wake up and they are still in prison, but now they know how to escape. The whole desription can be found here: Dedicated to Petras Geniusas.
