This is how we keep Flippy’s enclosure clean and we will show you what type of substrate we use. Both the coconut fiber and cypress mulch are soft enough so that if he does eat it (which he does sometimes) it will be easy for him to ingest rather than putting in hard woodchips, which can hurt him.
What we put in his enclosure:
Substrate Mixture
- Eco Earth Coconut Fiber from Zoo Med
- Forest Floor Cypress Mulch from Zoo Med
-Sphagnum Moss (great for red-footed tortoise, they love this and it keeps moisture inside enclosure)
- Water Bowl (big enough for them to sit and soak in if they wanted to, but not too high)
- Fake plants to make it feel like a real tropical rainforest.
- Smooth rocks for them to climb over
- Hides for shelter
- UVB light
- Ceramic heating lamp
- Infared heating lamp
- Ceramic heating pad underneath enclosure in one corner
- Automatic Misting spray
-Thermometer on every side
- Hygr
