Wolf pups checking out their mother’s scent

A neat sequence showing how scent is a form of “communication” for wolf packs. The adult wolf in the video is Wolf V085, the breeding female of the Paradise Pack, who scent-marks right in front of the camera. 2.5 hours later, her 5 pups come trotting down the same trail and go directly to the spot she had marked. They all spend some time checking out her scent and then continue on their way. The video is also neat because it confirms all 5 Paradise Pack pups were still alive as of mid-September. When trying to figure out pup survival, getting awesome high-quality video footage like this is akin to hitting the jackpot! All the pups looked pretty good too. None of them looked especially gaunt or thin. The last pup appears a bit smaller than the rest but no emaciated. Quite a turn around from last year when the pack lost all 4 pups by the middle of July! Learn more about the Voyageurs Wolf Project: Website: Facebook:
