Every morning at around 8 am, this male pheasant coucal would perch and make these different calls. Intrigued, I decided to observe and record his different calls. This took me between 1-2 months of observing and recording around February into late March. I had a lot of fun as I never have done this before! Look at 1:13 in the video, there is another pheasant call (much lower in tune) and notice how he immediately seeks where it comes from. At 1:18 there may be another call (higher in tune and in number) from a third pheasant, which is not surprising because I have distinctly heard three different pheasants in that area. One of the reasons why this took a long time to capture this pheasant’s behaviour and the calls was that they are easily spooked and fly immediately when they see you (which was very challenging!). Not to mention the lens fogging up immediately as the air conditioner was on inside the house (there were two times where I forgot the battery and the SD card, just disastrous).
