The country first appeared in the second edition of the contest in 1957. The debut entry ’Wohin, Kleines Pony?’ by Bob Martin placed last.
In 1966, Udo Jürgens took part for the third time. With his entry ’Merci Chérie’, he achived the most points and won the contest the first time for Austria.
It took another 48 years for the second victory at the Eurovision Song Contest. Conchita Wurst, a bearded drag-queen, took part with the song ’Rise Like A Phoenix’. The entry got 290 points and Conchita was crowned as the winner of the 2014 edition.
The Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) is the responsible broadcaster for Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest.
