Glenn Spiro on designing Beyoncé’s ’papillon’ ring

London-based master jeweller G (Glenn Spiro), talks about his design for the exquisite ’papillon’ ring, worn by international icon Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. Spiro is famed for his vibrant and technically superb designs and his passion for gemstones. In the shape of a butterfly, the ’papillon’ ring uses an ingenious spring system, enabling the delicate titanium wings to gently ’flutter’ with the movement of the wearer’s hand. Gifted to the V&A by Beyoncé, the ring joins a collection of jewels associated with some of history’s most notable women including Elizabeth I, Catherine the Great and the Empress Josephine.
