Off-Axis as a Movement Practice

Why movement needs a practice if we anyways move all the time? Simply put, the practice should create a safe space to move in ways that we wouldn’t move otherwise. The quality of the practice measured by how much of these extraordinary ways of moving support and nourish the movements in our daily lives. For me, off-axis work is an example of a high quality movement practice. I never visit off-axis movement as I go about in my daily life but when I do practice it I feel an immediate supportive force. The sensation of playing with the fall rather than fearing it, is a powerful metaphor. This metaphor stays in my body even when I confront a non-physical fall like an emotional, economical or spiritual one. When I am about to crash into disappointment or despair, my body remembers the movement that happens in practice, after balance was lost.
