06-21-2023 Matador, TX - Tornado Aftermath - Picking up survivor with audio - Search and Rescue

Upon following the tornado into town, the damage and destruction was unimaginable. Many houses and buildings were leveled and much of town did not escape without damage. A survivor was witnessed walking on the side of the road as vehicles passed him in driving rain so I pulled up and asked him to get in the vehicle to be out of the rain. The young man was on the phone with his dad recapping the ordeal of being in the Dollar General store as the tornado hit and getting out of the rubble and it was heartbreaking listening to the young man. As I pulled up to where the Dollar General used to be, there were people tending to an injured survivor who I believe was the friend the young man I picked up was talking about when explaining getting out of the store. More search and rescue operations commenced after getting the injured survivor into a truck to get him out of the rain and hail and to an ambulance. Those efforts were complicated by more storms with strong winds and hail moving through the town as we got more survivors out as well as a few people who passed away.
