Welcome to “Atoms”: tiny pieces of music inspired by tiny and beautiful things! When I notice something beautiful, I film it and write a short piece of new music inspired by it. Tiny film scores, if you will. Basically, I’m trying to musically follow Mary Oliver’s beautiful “instructions for living a life: pay attention. be astonished. tell about it.” It’s been a meaningful meditative practice to me to notice more beauty around me, take a few minutes to capture it and to figure out what it might sound like.
Each “atom” song and video will be roughly 1 minute in length and will be released spontaneously. First as posts on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc. Shortly after, each “Atom” will be widely available on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
In the same way that seeing something beautiful in the middle of my day feels kind of like an oasis, a tiny chance to catch my breath, the hope for “Atoms” is to offer up that same meditative feeling in your Insta timeline or TikTok feed, or in the middle of your next doom scroll.
Because a collection of real atoms is called a molecule, every 15 atoms that I write are gathered and released as a set called a Molecule. “Molecule 1” is out now (), featuring Atoms 1-15. This latest song, “Atom 16“ is the start of “Molecule 2”.
⚛️ “Atom 16” is closeup footage of a projector screen that I saw in a children’s museum in Kansas. Recorded exclusively with Teletone Audio instruments.
