Sergiu Popa & ROMada @ Bela Farm

The world premiere performance of ROMada, recorded July 19, 2021 at Bela Farm in Hillsburgh, ON. Led by Moldavian-born, Montreal-based accordion master Sergiu Popa, this amazing new ensemble explores the rich pan-national musical traditions of the Romani people through a Canadian lens. Also featuring Lache Cercel (violin), Noemy Braun (cello), Andi Pema (percussion), Roman Manolache (bass), Zoltan Szomora, and special guests, vocalist Cornel Ionescu, and dancers Ibtissam and Deluah. Presented by Ashkenaz as Episode I of “Nu? Normal! The Barn Sessions” Commissioned by Ashkenaz with the support of Canada Council for the Arts. Additional project support from Ontario Creates, ShowLoveTO, Ontario Trillium Foundation. Presented in association with Bela Farm, Shoresh, Small World Music, Kultura Collective, URGNT, BLOK, National Museum of American Jewish History.
