Phoenician Religion: An Up-date by Prof. Hélène Sader (American University of Beirut) Wednesday, 25th May 2022 CET (Rome, Paris, Berlin / GMT 2) (Jerusalem, Athens / GMT 3) (New York / GMT-4) Phoenician religion or “religions” as some would like to argue is a topic that has been dealt with by many modern scholars. They have exhausted all the available historical sources trying to understand and to establish the main characteristics of the religion practiced by the inhabitants of the Levantine coast in the Iron Age. In view of the rarity of contemporary sources from the homeland the role of archaeology became instrumental in filling the gaps left by the written sources. New evidence relating to Phoenician religion has emerged from recent excavations on Phoenician sites from the homeland.
