Ireland: Truckers blockade Dublin Port to protest rising fuel prices

Dozens of truck drivers blockaded Dublin Port on Monday in response to growing fuel costs, driver shortages, rising taxes, and other operating costs. “Fuel has gone up, our rates are not coming up to meet what we are spending on diesel, I mean each fill, it costs us an extra 200 of fill for the lorry,“ said one of the drivers. He added that the truckers had received ’no backing’ from the government. Tensions at the port were evident as one of the truckers was pulled away from a truck by law enforcement. Up to 40 vehicles are believed to have taken part in the protest, according to authorities. Large traffic jams were reported in the port area as a result.
