Pendulum Birds made of paper

’Six pendulum birds’ This automaton is based on the mechanism of the pendulum. While rotating the landscape, at the same time the pendulum is put into starting position. When a bird is in the centre of the frame the pendulum is released and the swing motion provides for a small motion in the bird. Although the mechanism is simple it was difficult to make. The motion that can be created with the pendulum is limited, and the crank cannot be turned to quickly. Landscape and birds are made with paper and are painted with watercolour. The motion is transferred with a small magnet which is attached to the pendulum. The moving parts of the bird are attached to a thin iron wire which responds to the magnet.
