Cyborg cockroaches to be deployed in future search and rescue missions

Cockroaches are known to infiltrate homes through the tiniest of gaps and this ability has inspired engineers in Singapore to create cyborg cockroaches. Madagascar hissing cockroaches are fitted with a ‘backpack’ consisting of several sensors and a small infrared camera that can detect lifesigns, providing frontliners with critical information in emergency situations.
