Developing XRugby: Tackle Progressions

What does it develop ? These are the progressions for building players to the tackle. How does it work ? - Once players confident and competent in grab and hold game and contact with the ground (parachute fall) you can start to introduce the tackle. - Start with side tackle and master this before progressing to the front tackle. - Demonstrate the correct technique, but without completing the tackle and use in a game i.e. touch. - Progress – when players are confident and competent - to ball carrier standing, tackler squatting and complete tackle. - Build up slowly, increasing pace of tackle and use small controlled games at each stage. Things to consider? - Think about how you group students for these exercises based on physical and emotional needs. - Progression to the full tackle may take a number of lessons and should not be rushed. - Contact should only be delivered by suitably qualified individuals.
