“… In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.” . The exact name of this feast is “Zihron Truah”, the Memorial of Shofar Blowing. But is not about the kind of a memory, when we remember somebody’s name or a phone number. This is the memory that lives in our inner being as if we were standing at the bottom of the mount Sinai together with our fathers a short time after the exodus of Israel from Egypt, standing there and listening to the voice of shofar coming from heaven and to the voice of God, both sounding as one. This memory means being in God’s holy presence here and now. Memory in Hebrew “Zecher”, “Zicharon”. Zachar is a name of a man, it has the same root. In the other words, this is the one who keeps memory of his standing before the Lord.
