Weaving magical sonic patterns through his extended sets at Thuishaven, De Marktkantine, and his own WEITER shows at Paradiso in Amsterdam have seen the Dutch star become a renowned figure within Holland’s underground House and Melodic Techno community. In tandem, a sparking production career has shone another spotlight on Olivier’s abilities with a century of credits signed to a plethora of esteemed imprints. Stil Vor Talent, Einmusika, Parquet Recordings, and Steyoyoke have all featured the Dutch master’s sound, while his own WEITER label has contributed to a slew of self-released original and remixes since its inception in 2015. Now making his Perspectives Digital debut, Olivier Weiter has created a very personal piece of work centered around summer holidays with his two brothers in Tuscany. Steeped in the nostalgia of close-knit familial ties, memories of childhood trips in central Italy are captured in three works of sonic vibrancy. “Georgio“ opens the EP with its pounding beat, running 16th note bassline, and ticking hi-hat pattern. A neat melodic sequence soon enters the fray with evocative chord progressions and twinkling arpeggio backdrop. Dynamism appears through immaculately placed open-filtered joy while a searing glissando lead captures a playful and endearing character. Hitting its stride post-breakdown, all elements combine to dramatic effect in a rousing opener. The title track is an eloquent study in driving rhythmic force and sultry harmonies that mirrors the rugged Apennine Mountains. Following the melodic narrative of its partner tracks, an intense analog lead cuts through the midrange with impressive dancefloor intensity while a swathe of counterpoint phrases rise and fall with ease against the core harmonic components. Evolving steadily over its near six minute timeframe, “Tuscan“ reaches its zenith with an easy authority born of an artist at the height of his production prowess. The final track “Lucca“ develops with a similarly crafted palette and stirring club-friendly credentials. Brilliant sonic colors bring vibrancy and energy to a canvas redolent in melodic brio. Over the course of six minutes, a cast of characters are progressively introduced in the early stages before dropping away enticingly at the midpoint. A pulsating wall of sound then makes its mark in the latter movements as a captivating phrase builds on the analog phrasing of melodies in earlier movements. The result is a magical denouement that showcases Olivier Weiter’s passion, craftsmanship, and emotional sensitivity to its fullest effect.
