Nottingham stabbing victims family speak outside court after sentencing

The family of one of Valdo Calocane’s victims say they were “railroaded” by prosecutors into accepting the triple killer’s manslaughter plea, after he was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order. Calocane was told by a judge at Nottingham Crown Court that he would be detained in a high-security hospital “probably for the rest of your life”. The 32-year-old took the lives of 19-year-old university students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar before killing 65-year-old school caretaker Ian Coates in a series of violent attacks in Nottingham on June 13 last year. Calocane, a paranoid schizophrenic, was sentenced after pleading guilty to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.
