Jojo Mayer and Nerve | Live at Rocks Off! NYC

For those of you who haven’t heard of Jojo Mayer and Nerve, especially drummers and electronic music aficionados, this is going to be a special treat. Nerve is a pioneering live electronica band lead by legendary New York Based Swiss drummer Jojo Mayer. Evolving out of his popular Prohibited Beatz parties in the late 90’s, the band performs live and often improvised electronic music using instruments combined with electronic manipulation to produce fun yet complex futuristic sounds Nerve consists of Jojo Mayer (Drums), John Davis (Bass & Low end manipulation), Jacob Bergson (Synths/Keys) and Aaron Nevezie (sound and real time sound deconstruction). They experiment within lots of different sub-genre’s of electronic music including jungle, dub, dubstep, glitch, tech house and everything in between, while bringing in their own jazzy improvisational twists into the mix. Considering that the band has been around since the 90’s, they truly were ahead of their time. But with explosion of electronic music and a general shift towards all things digital, it seems like the time is right for a band like Nerve to hit the limelight again and bring a breathe of fresh air to the heavily saturated world of electronic music. All in all, Nerve is just a cool ass band that blew our minds when we first saw a show. We’ve now been to several shows in NYC, and honestly, each one has been a unique experience. They’re constantly pushing boundaries and experimenting with new sounds, which is a pleasure to experience. This show took place on a boat for the Rocks Off! concert series in NYC. And a pro-tip, if you’re looking for a drummer for your band, head to one of their shows and you’ll be able to fill your entire rolodex ;) Thank you Rocks Off! and Nerve for bringing us on board! Oh and they recently released a new video EP, be sure to check it out.
