Roewe launched the W5, its first SUV, at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show. The W5 is based on the Ssangyong Kyron and is powered by the 1.8 L engine also seen in the Roewe 550 and 750.

The W5 ad shows the story of an American researching the history of his grandfather who appears to have flown fighter planes during the Second World War in China. This long advert has our hero driving his W5 SUV from China’s urban centre to the countryside in search of the man who flew alongside his grandfather in WW2 while showing his own rugged individualism in his journey. The American is played by Marko Jankovic.
SAIC will roll out Roewe W5, its first own-brand sport utility vehicle in May nationwide, priced between 170,000-300,000 yuan.
