Lucretzia Bori was one of the most popular of sopranos during the early part of the 20th century. Her debut at the Met was in 1912, in Manon Lescaut opposite Caruso. She remained there for the next 24 years, singing 29 roles in over 600 performances, a longevity equaled by few singers. Miguel Fleta, on the other hand, who lived only to the age of 45, sang only 37 times at the Met, having debuted there as Cavaradossi in 1923.
