“Terve Ukraina!“ - Finnish Song about Ukraine [Sanat] + [English translation]

Over 100 years ago on the 29th of June 1917, the Finnish poet Eino Leino wrote this poem for Ukraine and all of Eastern Europe. During that tumultuous time the Russian Imperium was breaking down and the peoples oppressed by tsarist rule freed themselves. On the 26th of February 2022, over 10 000 people gathered in the capital of Finland, Helsinki, to show their support for Ukraine who was now once again facing Russian aggression. The old poem suddenly became extremely relevant. The composer Olli Saari took the old poem and hastily composed a song out of it. The Sibelius-Academy then proceeded to perform this song outside the Russian embassy in Helsinki. This film is dedicated to the brave mujahideen fighters of Ukraine.
