The defense of the Soviet Arctic lasted from June 1941 to in November 1944. During this time, all the attempts of the Nazis capture Murmansk were repulsed. The Luftwaffe made 792 air raid on Murmansk dropping bombs 185,000, resulting in large part the city was devastated and destroyed by fire. Throughout the war, the Arctic convoys loaded with the Lend-Lease of Allied have been overloading in Murmansk.
