interludes: Choi Sun Bae

Improvisations Choi Sun Bae, Trumpet Choi Sun Bae is one of the few living legends of Korean free improvisation, having been introduced to jazz via influence of the US army after the Korean War and then diverging to a more experimental path starting in the 1970’s. Together with saxophonist Kang Tae-Hwan and percussionist Kim Dae Whan, the trio nearly single handedly established Korea’s free jazz scene, and Choi Sun Bae became known particularly in Japan, where he began to tour regularly. Even at 80 years old, his improvisations use a variety of adventurous, extended techniques, a testament to his disciplined daily practice which spanned over 5 decades. - Interludes: Directed by Yeonho Jung Cinematography by Kyungtae Hwang Edited by Kyungtae Hwang Music Directed by Sunjae Lee (Mung Music) Recorded and Mixed by Sunjae Lee Produced by Trade of Hearts / Mung Music Garments by DEATH TO TENNIS Powered by Trade of Hearts, DEATH TO TENNIS #interludes
