Warrel Dane & Jonny Smokes - “Obey“ - (acoustic version)

On October 20, 2012 in Seattle at Studio Seven, I was joined on stage by Warrel for a few special acoustic songs. It was a bit of a try out to see about possibly touring in Europe, playing some small intimate shows such as this, just the two of us. Unfortunately it never came to pass, but the small set was captured and recently released by Century Media as four bonus tracks for the 2021 reissue of Warrel’s first solo album, “Praises To The War Machine.“ Physical copies were limited to only a few hundred double LP’s, so our set is basically side 4 of the long album. If you are lucky enough to own a copy, keep them safe and enjoy the music! For the rest of those who want to hear the show, the reissue with the bonus material is available on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. Just look for the “Praises To The War Machine“ with the release date of 2021. Normally I perform solo acoustic shows with my loop sampling pedal, playing a variety of instruments into the looper to create all the tracks. For these songs I pre-recorded all of the drums using my djembe, shakers and tambourines, bass and additional guitar parts, then saved those tracks in my loop pedal so I just needed to press play and then perform my live guitar parts and sing along. We did perform one Frank Sinatra cover where I actually looped all the guitars live, and that version is on the album. It still haunts me to hear him sing “it was a very good year...“ The time I spent touring with Warrel for the “Praises“ album, as well as our many years of close friendship were very good years indeed. Rest in peace my brother. You are forever in my heart. “Obey“ was written by Warrel Dane and Peter Wichers. “Praises To The War Machine“ is available from Century Media. By the way, this video was shot by myself with a few 720 flip cams, so the footage isn’t the best quality. Luckily I managed to find the footage in an old hard drive, along with the audio tracks, which I also cleaned up and remixed for the album. Maybe I will make videos for the other songs if you all comment and like and subscribe... ;)
