Camping and Hiking

My father and I spent years talking about this little grove of massive trees located in the Oregon Coast Range. Scared off by the long and unreliable drive to the trailhead we finally decided to make the effort to get there. We were not disappointed. THIS HIKE This 51-acre grove of massive Douglas Fir and Western Hemlock trees is surrounded by clear cuts on private timberland. As such gates and access can be closed without notice. If you make it to the trailhead you’re in for a treat. The easy 1.4 mile lollipop travels through quintessential old growth forest of the North Fork Siletz River. Some trees are over 20 feet in circumference and 500 years old, you’ll even pass through the fallen nurse log of “Big Guy“ which was believed to be the 2nd largest Douglas Fir in Oregon when it fell due to a windstorm in 1981. Before heading out please check the official BLM site and call to make sure roads
