(UN)FAMILIAR SOUND

Sound and video art made at the laboratory (UN)FAMILIAR SOUND which took place in September 2022 as part of the parallel program of the exhibition UN(FAMILIAR PLACE) in Perm Center of City Culture (Perm, Russia). During the laboratory, citizens of Perm worked with “sounds of the past“ and “sounds of the future“ recording sounds of the city that reflect their feelings about these concepts. Artists Asya Fiddler @asyafiddler and Will Owen @willowen6292 curated the laboratory creating the final piece. This is a meditative ambient sound sequence that gives the feeling of the present as you listen to it – the present based on collective ideas of the past and the future. Video art was created from the word clouds made of words, phrases, and comments by the participants of the laboratory while they were collecting the sounds. Text and sound pieces whirling in a seemingly endless flow – a transcendent cast of one city’s reality in September 2022. Concept – Asya Fiddler, Will Owen, and the participants of the laboratory.
