Waldeyer’s tonsillar ring also called pharyngeal lymphoid ring or Waldeyer’s lymphatic ring is a surrounded arranged of Lymphoid Tissue in the Pharynx
. Waldeyer’s ring surrounds Nasopharynx and Oropharynx, however some of its tonsillar is located above and some below the Soft Palate
From the top to the bottom the ring consists:
• 1 Adenoids or Pharyngeal Tonsil are located under the Sphenoid Bone on the roof of the Nasopharynx
• 2 Tubal Tonsils are located at the level of Auditory opening Tube into the Nasopharynx
• 2 The commonly called Tonsils or Palatine Tonsils are located in the Oropharynx
1 Group of Lingual Tonsil are located on the back of the tongue
Tonsillitis means the inflammation of tonsils
The Pharyngeal Tonsils are more common in children
If they undergo inflammation, they can obstruct the Respiratory tracts.
Another term in common use is Tonsillectomy: which refers to the removal of the tonsils
