Evacuation Of A Shanty Town (1953)

Mathari, Kenya. Written documentation note states - these people are being evacuated because they are either non-Kikuya or Kikuya (Kikuyu sp.) released from screening. This operation is a continuation of the previous Mathari Valley move to clean up the illegal shanty towns around Nairobi. Within 1/2 mile of this village a Mau Mau court had been found and within 100 yards of the vicinity of the court 18 corpses had been discovered. In this village all the personnel of a full Mau Mau court had been identified including 2 Mau Mau oath administrators fully justifying the action taken by the authorities. Sent in by E White. MS.
