Fossekall, the National Bird of Norway - 4K Interesting Animal Facts - Unique Wildlife of the World
White-throated dipper (lat. Cinclus cinclus) is a passerine bird, named for its bobbing or dipping movements. It is widespread in Europe, Middle East, Central Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. Dippers frequent fast-flowing clear streams and rivers and is unique among passerines for their ability to dive, swim and walk underwater. Holding its breath for up to 50 seconds, it can deftly scour the bottom up to 20 meters. Dipper feeds in the shallows and between stones primarily on aquatic insects, crustaceans and small fish. Despite severe frosts it winters in non-freezing areas of rivers and streams in the foothills and can dive even at -40 C˚. White-throated Dipper (norw. fossekall) is also the national bird of Norway. Take a closer look at the modest beauty of this small but brave bird!
